20240511-12 Sat Sun CoTien Hill

Seldom i dare climbing hills on both the week end days. Yesterday i did that and i ended up over exerting myself. Of course i did. At 49 I'm not growing any younger after all. 
  
 
For Sunday, 12 May 2024 the word was already out on our group for joining the #CoTien_hill trek @ our #NhaTrang city. Our usual members had enrolled and it completely slipped my mind on Sat, the 11th as my feet automatically turned to the hill by around after 4 pm. 
 
 
My ascend started at 17:24 & at 16:04 i was bowing my head to the deity on the first peak. 40 minutes is my new personal best so far. If a successful trek is an outcome of habit and stamina, the i think i am close to clearing the habit part. However the feeling of winning over your fears is absolutely blissful.

 
The next day on 12th May, Sunday our Khanh reminds me of our group trek on the same hill. OMG, since i am the front runner of the group i cannot just not go there. Furthermore the Minh Phat family was to come driving approx 50 kms all the way for this. So i started with them too. Normally a 300ml water bottle is ok for me for this climb. But in my over excitement i took a 1 litre bottle and that proved a major drag. Add this to the already tired muscles of yesterday, i had to give up all my bravado and had to sit a several times in the last leg of the climb.

But as usual, once you reach the top, within seconds you are the king of the world and feel blessed for all that perspiration and hardship you put yourself into. Yesterday we were Desh, Khan, Ngoc, Minh Phat, Kim Cuc, Kin Dong, Ngoc Tien and Vinh to share this wonderful feeling together. 

 
This being a family picnic started off rather late, going for the second and third peak was out of question. But also this being a family picnic, we had variety of tasty munches available. Kim Cuk had brought delicious Kim Babs and Ngoc had taken boiled bananas, ground nuts, corns and sweet potato snacks along with a home made mulberry wine. This is the big advantage of bringing families to the treks ... only you have to put up with constant chatter! 😃
 
 

 
 
The pleasure of taking along your folks to your special places is immense. And i am thankful to them for coming with me. But i am looking forward to next Saturday to do this alone. ... As i am better at doing it alone, anyway!

Oh, i never thought the story of this small picnic will be as big. I must stop now.

20241222 Sun CHUA SUOI DO pagoda with Shivam Desh

We prefer visiting temples filled with genuine devotion, where the focus is on the divine, not the perfect selfie angle.  There's something special about the buzz of true worshippers rather than the clicking sound of camera shutters.     Entry fees are fine, of course, but there's a subtle difference between a spiritual journey and a sightseeing tour, don't you think?      South East Asia, being the land of Buddhism, we find both the kinds in abundance, both beautiful.      Last Sunday myself and our son Shivam could visit one such real temple called Chua Suối Dổ (चुअ स्वै दो) or literally the waterfall temple some 12 kms off the city of Nha Trang where Chua = a pagoda & Suối Dổ = a stream or waterfall.         Motor biking at a leisurely speed for about 11 kms from Nha Trang city to the pagoda is a beautiful experience in itself.
